LOST IN SPACE! 20/20Proof Podcast Episode 20

October 1, 2008 by 2020proof

This episode is old as fuck. Not as in too old for this earth, just olllld. Notice how there was a large gap between 19 and 20. We are liars and slackers, please forgive us. Initially, this episode was just going to be held in the vaults. So we talk about a bunch of tracks that were once new but no longer are. Feel free to download and listen to us banter. We talk about the demise of CL Smooth’s career, Zab Judah getting his ass kicked,  how hip-hop considers legends to be disposable, and the validity of Ras Kass’ political views. Promise to be back on a regular schedule. Life can be hectic, yo. Decided to go without the playlist from now on. Consider it a surprise.

Bet Ya House On It

D.I.R.T. (Da Incredible Rap Team)? Best Album of 2008 ? Odds gotta be 2/1!

Supposedly, September 30th is the day that D.I.R.T. will be released to the masses. I am putting it right there at the number one spot for my most anticipated album of 2008. Really, what can fuck with it? The only other artists right now that I can think of off the top of the head are Blu & Exile and maybe NYOil. If you heard their leaked track, “Everything is Heltah Skeltah” then you know what you are in store for: creative concepts, clever rhymes that give you hope about a change in the current status of hip-hop, and a dope beat.

For a minute I was getting worried there, it seemed like Rock and Ruck would never bring it back together. All of a sudden- BOOM. Sean P went from being the second most talked about rapper in Heltah Skeltah to being one of the most respected and talked about rappers in the game. He dropped two solo albums with his most recent having some guest spots from Rock, which gave all the HS fans something to tide them over.

Also, from the sounds of the new HS track, Sean P is back to his old form vocally. When listening to recent tracks and seeing him perform live , I started to wonder if I should mail some fuckin’ Ricola to Duck Down. Sean P sounded mad hoarse.

Seems like someone made a trip to the ear, nose and throat doctor, cause Sean P is sounding  like vintage “Operation Lockdown”-era Ruck but with new tricks up his sleeve. Add Rock, who will forever have one of the dopest voices in hip-hop and you have a recipe for guaranteed success. If you are going to download shit in 2008 then download that ringtone bs, buy this ish. Perhaps if people start supporting ish like this, we can expect higher quality hip-hop on a more regular basis. Oh yeah, what albums are everyone out there anticipating?

Where Have You Gone, Charlie Brown?

July 29, 2008 by 2020proof

Before I sent the original ATCQ “Scenario” to Unkut.com, I was thinking about how great LONS was back in the day.  I consider their first and 2nd albums to both be classics, and contained performances from one of my favorite MC’s of all time, Charlie Brown. Now, if the original “Scenario” can be tracked down, then someone needs to track down Charlie. The man doesn’t even have  a Wikipedia page! His ish isn’t even linked off the LONS page! What is going on?

Of all the “Where Are They Now?” type articles, blogs and songs that float around the internet, I would have to say I am most interested in Charlie Brown. You know he has some interesting stuff to say about Busta and the history of LONS. Hell, I want to know what he has been up to. Everyone and their mom want to make a comeback nowadays, why can’t Charlie? He always had one of the dopest voices in hip-hop, high energy, and a dope flow. After his performance on that Funk Flex track he straight dropped off the map. Last I hear he was doing some type of jazz performance stuff with relatives (is this true or am I dreaming?)

Anyway, if anyone has any knowledge of his whereabouts or could point me in the right direction, please hit me up at webmaster@2020proof.net.  I have no interest in doing an interview with a majority of rappers that are currently active, but this is one I would kill to get.

Also: Brian and I played the original “Scenario” in March on the 12th episode of the 20/20Proof Podcast. Check the archives and subscribe.

Arthur Abraham Defies Lord Jamar

June 21, 2008 by 2020proof

Fix your broken jaw now it’s time to retire

Fuck Lord Jamar, I ain’t goin out!

Arthur Abraham makes Tiger Woods look like a damn sissy. Golf? What? Golf? Are you serious? Dude got his jaw busted and still fought till the end. Sure, he got a little help from the ref but that is besides the point.  He was spitting blood, swallowing blood, and not giving a fuck. Despite getting his shit busted by Edison Miranda, he was able to get the decision. Will Abraham get his face rearranged again in the rematch?

At the press conference, Abraham stated, ““My eyes say more than his words. I wouldn’t need to say anything. I’m not interested in talking to him or hearing what he has to say.”

Miranda responded in true  trash talk gutter supreme fashion, “Of course he doesn’t have anything to say. I destroyed his mouth….what has surprised me about him is that he is an idiot. Didn’t you see how nervous he was up there? He was talking like a little girl. He knows I destroyed him. His trainers lied to him. His trainers don’t care about him otherwise they wouldn’t have brought him here. I care more about him than his trainers do.”

Destroyed his mouth! That is what I am talking about!

They face off again in the rematch tonight on Showtime. Time 4 Sum Aksion! Someone please tell Miranda to come out to Brand Nubian!
